Description
This charming map of Cairo presents a fascinating example of 20th century tourism to the Egyptian capital city. Major landmarks are individually illustrated and labeled, while other notable buildings such as churches, hotels, banks, and embassies are outlined within the image. Transportation routes, including bus and tram lines, are noted along with their connections to the surrounding suburbs.
On the left side and verso of the map are several contemporary advertisements, each of which relates to a numbered business on the map. Photo stores, cigarette shops, typewriter companies, booksellers, florists and cobblers are all promoted on the map and surrounding text.
