Description

Brown County State Park made its debut to the public in 1929 and, as its popularity grew, underwent significant expansion. Within the initial years, the park saw the establishment of the Abe Martin Lodge, later known as the Brown County State Park Inn, along with several cabins, a swimming pool, a saddle barn, and the creation of Strahl Lake. The infrastructure of the park received substantial attention during this period, with the development and enhancement of roads, entrances, and numerous trails to enhance the visitor experience.

This trail map was issued by the Indiana Department of Conservation within a few years of the park’s opening. Truck, horse, and foot trails are noted according to a legend in the lower right, while numerous locations of interest, recreational opportunities, and notable structures are labeled individually throughout the image. An inset in the lower left shows regional highways, while the verso provides descriptive text on the park and other protected areas across the state.
