This unusual and innovative broadside advertises a c. mid-1920s auction for property along New York’s Bronx and Pelham Parkway. The former owners, the Astors, are referenced throughout as an indicator of sound investment history. A stylized map along the top of the sheet presents a pictorial overview of the Bronx’s Pelham Parkway between Pelham Bay Park (upper right) and the Grand Concourse (lower left). Parcels to be sold, situated between the tracks of the New York, Westchester, & Boston Railroad and Young Avenue, are highlighted in black, with blue markings reading ‘right about here is my lot.’
The accompanying persuasive text encourages the audience to Go, then Think, then Go, then Think again, before attending the Columbus Day auction. “Do you want to be one of the fortunate ones?” Issued around 1923 by Joseph P. Day Auctioneer, Inc. Day was one of the most successful New York City real estate auctioneers of the early 20th century.
