This informational poster map was created and published in Washington, D.C. in 1967 by the Civic Education Service as part of its Headline-Focus Wall Map series. The image presents a simple pictorial overview of the South American nation, with captioned vignettes showing an interesting contrast of local poverty and rich industrial and agricultural deposits.
The accompanying text provides demographic data and descriptive information on the struggling economy and military rule. Portraits of the former and incoming presidents – both ‘Army men’ – can be seen in the lower right.
