Description
This scarce map of Boone County, Illinois was originally published by the W.W. Hixson Company of Rockford, Illinois, probably in the mid-1930s. The bright red overprinting indicates this somewhat later example was distributed by the Chicago-based real estate firm of Elmer Stults, Inc.
The somewhat simple image highlights the network of ever-improving roads that connect the various towns across the northern Illinois county, including Belvidere, Poplar Grove, and Capron. Sections within each township are numbered and schools, churches, cemeteries, and railroads are labeled. An interesting example of local real estate promotion during the Great Depression.
