Description
This interesting booklet was compiled by C.W. Norwood, a late veteran of the Twenty-First Kentucky Infantry, and published in Chattanooga, Tennessee by Gervis M. Connelly in 1908. It was issued compliments of Chattanooga Savings Bank to tourists and residents interested in local Civil War history. The contents begin with a brief description of Chattanooga; noting the pleasant climate, local amenities, and relevant demographics (e.g. 80% white, 90% American-born).
Following is Norman’s chronological narrative of the Battle of Chickamauga – the three-day engagement had the 2nd highest number of casualties of the war (after Gettysburg). A similar summary is provided for the Battle of Chattanooga. Unit rosters, a folding map, and several photographs supplement each section of the booklet, which offers an engaging perspective about 45 years after the events took place.
