Description

This colorful map of the famous French Quarter neighborhood in New Orleans was illustrated by Bill Skacel and published around 1946. “Vieux Carre”, a nickname for the city, means ‘Old Quarter’ in French. Various attractions and distinctive local features are brightly illustrated, including an unfortunately racist Mammy caricature. Locations of interest include the Tarberry Theater, Napoleon House, and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop.

The map was designed to be folded and mailed as a keepsake. It features several postcard-style views and descriptive text on the verso, as well as a spot for a 3-cent stamp.
