Berkeley

A left-wing view of, and from, Berkeley from the early 1970s.

This rather simple and sketchy street plan of Berkeley was issued as the centerfold in Vol. 6, No. 11 of the Berkeley Tribe, a ‘radical’ counterculture weekly published from 1969 to 1972. Fifty different locations of most interest to the most underserved populations are noted throughout the Hills, Flatlands, and Campus areas. These include LGBT and women’s resources, public buildings (i.e. libraries), parks, food banks, and pig (police) stations. Accompanying text offers further resources for material assistance, medical services, entertainment, and legal assistance. There is also bold encouragement to ‘STEAL THIS CENTERSPREAD.’
