Description
This unique view of the United States doesn’t reflect political borders, topographical detail or transit routes, but instead provides a visual celebration of professional baseball teams across the country. Illustrations of individual stadiums are provided for most teams alongside their logos corresponding to the approximate location of their host city. Historical aspects of the sport can be seen along the outer edges of the image, such as ‘The Shot Heard Round the World’, photographs of old stadiums, and illustrations of some of baseball’s greatest players, like Satchel Paige, Roberto Clemente, and Lou Brock.
This is the third edition of the Baseball ArtMap, drawn by Frank Ordaz and published in Foster City by World Impressions, Inc. in 1987. The Twins are appropriately crowned World Champions within the image, which also references Nolan Ryan’s ongoing strikeout record, Mark McGuire’s single-season home run record, and Don Mattingly’s six grand slams (also a record). Fans of the Rockies, Marlins, Nationals, Diamondbacks, and Rays will have to wait until subsequent editions to show off their team pride.
