Description

This delicious pictorial map of Italy was issued on behalf of an Italian oil refiner in an attempt to draw French automobile tourism to the country. Illustrations of the regional culinary delicacies are accompanied by a ‘small gastric dictionary’ that explains many of Italy’s most famous dishes, desserts, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, and wines.

An accompanying advertisement in the upper right ensures the motorist that Aquila brand products and service stations are available in towns across the country – presumably offering some level of comfort in the days when automobile travel was a little more hazardous.

The verso features additional food illustrations and descriptions of regional cuisine. Published in Novara by the Istituto Geografico De Agostini in 1960.
