Description

“Hollywood has developed from a sleepy little village of 4,000 in 1909, to a charming community of 130,000 in 1927. The preeminent factor in this unprecedented growth is found in the class of the city’s population. Artists, professional people, those of high talent generally who have succeeded largely elsewhere, and who have the courage and virility to come here and found a newer and higher civilization, are part of the everyday life of Hollywood.” [Text, Verso].

This charming little folding map presents a simple street plan of The Movie Capital of the World – Hollywood, California. Locations of interest are labeled within the image, which is surrounded by contemporary advertisements, a distance chart, and a view of the Hollywood Bowl (seating over 20,000!). The verso shows a map of the principal California Highways and provides additional informational text on the city. Promoted accommodations include the Hollywood-Roosevelt, Christie Hotel, and Hotel St. Moritz.

Published in Los Angeles by the Miniad Company around 1928. Despite being ‘published quarterly for the convenience of the traveling public’ (according to text on the front cover), Miniad Company maps are uncommon.
