Description
This distorted world map shows the globe on a fascinating custom projection, with territory colored according to control by the Allies or Axis (apparently there were no neutrals). Rather than a distance scale, the legend provides flight times of five-hour increments at 200 mph – a rather ludicrous unit of measurement that doesn’t take into account any number of variables.
Accuracy is clearly not the point – rather, the image serves to convince the audience of the worldwide reach of the U.S. Army Air Force. Designed by Phil Santry and published in 1943.
