Description

“The fighting is over – the Germans and their Allies have quit. Peace problems now confront us. New nations have been organized. They must be educated and put on their feet. Constructive leaders must be developed – the radical held down – the conservative bucked up. The feudal idea is dead.” – C.H. MacDowell, President, Armour Fertilizer Works.

This charming little almanac was published by Chicago’s Armour Fertilizer Works in 1919. Numerous rich illustrations adorn the 50+ pages, including full-color images of cattle, pig, and sheep breeds, views of Armour facilities, and a delightful repast of Armour products (with accompanying instructions for the housewife).

A series of fourteen cartoons, credited to Briggs, chronicles the story of an undernourished city worker who was able to join the Army after working on the farm. A centerfold pictorial map of the United States highlights many of the nation’s primary agricultural products, along with the location of packing plants, fertilizer factories, and more.
