Description

One can almost taste the hot, dusty air of the Wild West when gazing at this heavily embellished map of Arizona. Ghost towns, lost mines, old mines, and military forts are noted throughout the image according to the legend in the upper left, while a coyote howls in the center of the compass rose. Battlegrounds, settlements, and important travel routes are also labeled. Surrounding the map is a border comprised of illustrations reflecting cultural stereotypes of the West, namely the violence and contrast between brutality and beauty.

The map was illustrated by Larry Toschik and published in 1963 by Cornwell and Cooper Enterprises. Printed in La Jolla, California by Cooper Graphics.
