Description
This attractive street plan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, provides an engaging overview of the city, situated on both banks of the Sioux Falls River. Local industry, recreation, education, and healthcare are highlighted through pictorial representations of major institutions. Of note are the South Dakota Penitentiary, the J. Morrell & Co Packing Plant (adjacent to the Stockyards), the Pettigrew Museum, Augusta College, and the State School for the Deaf.
The lovely image was designed by George E. Vanden Brink and circulated compliments of J.J. Roberts & Cook Realty Company. Handwritten annotations note (among other things) that the ‘highest class homes’ are in the River View addition, adjacent to Sherman Park. Undated, but most likely issued sometime in the mid-1930s, after the completion of the Sioux Valley Hospital (1930) and before the establishment of the Army Air Force Technical Training Command in 1940.
