Description
The land of Middle Earth reigns as one of the most comprehensive fantasy worlds of all time, and has been well represented in written and visual arts. The creator, J.R.R. Tolkien, is famous for giving life to memorable characters and vivid landscapes, but it was his son, Christopher, who would forever memorialize the world by creating its first maps.
They were the inspiration behind this interpretation of Middle Earth, designed by Peter Fenlon and published by Iron Crown Enterprises, Inc. in 1982 as part of an LoTR role-playing game. Well-known regions like Mordor, Rohan, and Gondor are labeled in blood-red while a variety of geographic features are shown pictorially and identified in the legend in the lower center. A lettering key to the lower right adds further context, important for the original purpose of the map as they aided players in defining various characteristics of the environment.
