Description
This colorful graph presents a historical overview of the evolution of America’s political parties. Beginning in 1789 with the Federals and Anti-Federals, the line charts reflect the party results in each presidential election through the victory of Grover Cleveland in 1885. Interesting entries include the 1821 shellacking of John Adams, four candidates received electoral votes in 1833, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
The sheet was originally issued in the 1887 edition of Gaskell’s New and Complete Family Atlas. The volume, published in Chicago by Fairbanks & Palmer Publishing, featured maps by cartographer George Cram.
