Description

This amusing poster was published in Orlando, Florida in 1979 by Tupperware Educational Services. An approximate outline of the United States, colored red white, and blue, is contentedly sitting at a cafe table, eating chocolate and soda. The not-so-subtle criticism of popular dining habits and their affects on Americans’ waistlines is somewhat lost in the cheesy grin.

Tupperware was developed in 1946 by Earl Silas Tupper, but didn’t really ‘take off’ until the famous Tupperware parties of the 1950s. This ingenious direct marketing strategy ostensibly gave women in the postwar world a unique business opportunity, but in some ways the method solidified traditional gender roles further.
