Description
This eye-catching pictorial puzzle map of the United States was designed, copywritten, and published by the talented Ernest Dudley Chase in 1949. Chase likely licensed the use of his work to Jaymar Specialty Company of New York, a popular creator and distributor of toys and games.
The puzzle is structured in two parts – a border comprised of ‘regular’ pieces and the contiguous states, the borders of which define their structure. Vignettes throughout the image highlight the architectural grandeur, historic sites, natural features, and major industries across America – all illustrated in Chase’s iconic pictorial style.
Further scenes around the border highlight other iconic locations across the U.S., from the Mission Dolores in San Diego to Independence Hall in Philadelphia. America the Wonderland is certainly a fitting title for such a celebratory composition.
