This incredible synthesis of cartographic data marries the results of two earlier maps – a 1991 landforms map of the United States by Gail Thelen and Richard Pike and a 1974 geologic map by Philip King and Helen Belkman. The results, compiled by Eleanor B. Jewel, were published in 2000 by the United States Geological Survey.
The vibrant image provides a sweeping overview of the continental topography, colored according to its age, dating back to 2,600 million years ago and the start of the Precambrian Era. A magnificent representation of the U.S., showcasing the nation’s broad variety of geographic features.
