Description

This compilation of captioned World War II images was designed and self-published around 1980 by retired USAF Major Lawrence E. Thibault, Sr. Thibault (1921 – 1999) was a member of the 20th Combat Mapping Squadron and used photos donated by former members of the unit to chronicle the action in the South Pacific. Planes, crews, and a variety of scenes involving work, play, and boredom are included within the paper covers.

The 20th CMS Squadron, nicknamed the ‘Flying Dumbos’, flew aerial photography, mapping, and reconnaissance missions using modified versions of the B-24 Liberator. The squadron was headquartered in a variety of bases across the Pacific, including Brisbane, Port Moresby, Biak, Leyte, Luzon, and Okinawa.

Condition Description: 26 double-sided photocopied sheets- apparently complete - bound with a metal rivet with title page. Contents are lightly worn, with faint toning, creased corners, and a bit of scattered spotting. Good to very good overall.
