Description
This attractive pictorial map of North Carolina was designed by Grace Illman and published in 1966 with the proud support of the Garden Club of North Carolina. Appropriately, the central theme is the natural beauty of The Tar Heel State. The colorful overview identifies primary highways and major settlements but otherwise, the content focuses largely on plant and animal life.
Numerous labeled vignettes showcase agricultural products, wildlife, vegetation, and landmarks. Flower shows, historic sites, and other locations of interest are also noted. A lavishly illustrated border shows more native flora and fauna. Additional decorative elements include an attractive compass rose, sailing ships, and several organizational seals above the title cartouche.
The map is scarce on the market and noted in only 3 examples in WorldCat as of September 2024 – Western Carolina University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and UNC-Wilmington.

Condition Description: Scattered foxing and spotting visible on the left side of the sheet (see scan) and in a handful of tiny instances throughout the image. Minor edge wear and a bit of faint wrinkling, consistent with age. About good condition overall. Includes a second printed key sheet, near fine.
