Description

This detailed navigational chart shows the various waterways around Ocracock Inlet in North Carolina. The channel is one of several that connect Pamlico Sound to the Atlantic Ocean and the constantly shifting seafloor required extreme vigilance when navigating under sail. Depth soundings are noted throughout the image and major geographic features are labeled.

Compiled by Lieutenant Dutton using measurements captured by Army Lieutenant of Engineers A.J. Swift. Published in 1835 by the U.S. Coast Survey.
