Description

This amusing pictorial map was drawn by Sergio Aragonés Domenech in 1981 for publication in Mad. It displays the characteristic illustrative style of the magazine, as well as the humor. A proposed second arch by McDonald’s fans in St. Louis, daydreaming truckers in Oklahoma and a car factory gone awry in Detroit are just a few of the adventures to be discovered within the image. Even the figures above the title are a satirical commentary on America’s diversity and often competing attitudes.

The fun continues on the verso, which features inset maps of New York, Los Angeles, Alaska and Hawaii – also created by Aragones using the same cartoonish form.
