Description

This colorful fantasy map presents a large area in northwest Middle-earth, the fictional setting for two of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novels, the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Physical features are depicted pictorially and serve as an important element during gameplay. An interesting variety of cities, geographic features, landmarks, and regions are labeled. Names like Gondor, Rohan, and Mordor resonate with meaning and lore, built upon decades of Tolkien fandom.

The map was illustrated by Eric Hotz, with concept design and graphics by Pete Fenlon. Published in Charlottesville, VA by Iron Crown Enterprises (I.C.E.), Inc. in 1989 to accompany Middle-Earth Adventure Guidebook II, an Elvish Dictionary and Glossary of Terms for use in Middle-Earth Roleplaying (and other tabletop RPGs). This example (unknown if present in other issues) includes an additional, reduced, black & white copy of the map, attributed to Pete Fenlon and Richard Hughes Britton.
