[7th Army Operations]

Custom WWII map, possibly created for a veteran’s scrapbook.

Manuscript map detailing the operations of the U.S. 7th Army from 1943 to 1945. After extended operations in Italy, the 7th undertook the invasion and liberation of southern France; driving the Germans into a retreat north through the Alsatian plains. It then moved east to support the flank of the U.S. Third Army during the Battle of the Bulge, and proceeded to capture Strasbourg, assault the Siegfried Line, and play a significant role in the ultimate capitulation of Germany.

This map was likely disbound from a scrapbook maintained by an unnamed soldier of the 7th Army. V-E Day is labeled as May 9th, 1945, as the soldier was a day ahead of the rest of the celebrations taking place across the United States on the 8th.
