Description

This exemplary unit history was compiled as a joint effort by several members of the 548th Field Artillery Battalion. Over a dozen editors, illustrators, and advisors are credited in the acknowledgements, with F. Bruckmann KG in Munich noted as the printer. The contents provide an easily digestible overview of the 548th F.A.B. and their operations between activation and V-E Day. A colorful foldout route map, credited to S/Sgt Ralph Condict, is included, along with a full unit roster.

The text emphasizes battle details (i.e. number of shells fired, missions undertaken, etc.), but there are also amusing anecdotes and stories of individual heroism. For example, PFC Michael. Murphy was awarded a letter of commendation for using a small motorboat to ferry troops over the Rhine. The uncommon volume is dedicated to PFC Lloyd S. Allen, a member of the Headquarters Battery, who was killed in action on April 20th, 1945, when the truck he was driving plunged through a bombed-out bridge.
