Description

This beautiful map of the European Theater during World War II highlights the campaigns of the 52nd (Lowland) Infantry Division in World War II. Organized as part of the Territorial Force in 1908, the unit played a vital role in British operations in Turkey, Egypt, and France during WWI. Similar levels of action were experienced in the subsequent global conflict, though the division’s initial operations as part of the Second British Expeditionary Force are drastically minimized when compared to the victorious march across Europe. Those ignominious six days on the continent are relegated to a small box in the center inset, which also includes training and refitting in England between 1941 and 1944.

The primary image highlights the return of the division to Belgium in the fall of 1944, followed by the triumphant march into Germany. Pictorial elements highlight notable engagements and memorable experiences from a soldierly perspective. Surrounding the map are the names of the various units that comprised the division, as well as the insignia for the various corps, brigades, and armies to which it was attached.
