33d Division Summary of Operations in the World War

“Commemorating the services of American forces in Europe during the World War.

This informational volume seeks to permanently enshrine the contribution made by the 30th United States Infantry Division to the Allied victory in Europe during the First World War. It was prepared by the American Battle Monuments Commission and published in Washington, D.C. by the Government Printing Office in 1944, shortly after elements of the division engaged in their first combat of the Second World War.

The book’s 86 pages present a summary of the 30th’s history beginning with its organization at Camp Logan, Texas in 1917 and culminating with the Armistice on November 11 the following year. An appendix includes the divisional organization, tables of casualties, and a list of sources. Also present are the four fold-out maps: 33d Division Troyon Sector and Woevre Plain Operation October 24 – November 11, 1918 (41.75″ x 38″); 33d Division Verdun-Fromereville Sector September 8-25, 1918 Meuse-Argonne Offensive September 28 – October 21, 1918 (44.75″ x 38.5″); 33d Division Somme Offensive August 8-20, 1918 (22.25″ x 32.25″); 33d Division Capture of Hamel, July 4 1918 (17″ x 26″).

Each contour map replicates a contemporary battle plan and updates it with bright red lines that highlight divisional movement across time. A key provides additional information on the various transportation routes and features shown.
