Description

This is an ephemeral guide to the 1980 U.S. Open, held at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. A fold-out map outlines the holes and identifies guest amenities and important infrastructure. Small insets on the verso note the various seating areas, while a parking diagram is among the other visitor information provided in the attached pages. Jack Nicklaus won the tournament, setting a new scoring record in the process.

This example was acquired from an individual who lived in Springfield at the time and was able to attend the event. He obtained the autographs of Ed Sneed and Hale Irwin, both of whom tied for 8th place. Jerry Pate (winner of the 1976 U.S. Open) and one other golfer, whom I’ve been unable to confirm, also signed the piece.
