Description

First established in 1875 in Ogden, Utah, Conoco got its start distributing oil, kerosene, and petroleum products to the vast quantities of settlers heading west in the last quarter of the 19th century. Fast forward 100 years, and the company was known around the world (even in the midst of the 1970s oil crisis).

This map is an attempt to correlate the success of the company with the incredible development of the transportation system in the United States during that some 100 year period. One side shows Gaylord Watson’s Railroad Map of the United States and includes a brief history of the company origins. The verso shows the Interstate Highway system and features a mileage chart and 100 destinations showcasing “our national and historic heritage.”
