Description
This rare map of the European Theater of World War II catalogs the war efforts of the 30th Signal Company, part of the 30th Infantry Division of the United States Army. After landing in Normandy on D+9, the unit traversed much of western Europe in their efforts to liberate France and destroy the Nazi war machine.
Events ranging from training in England to V-E Day in Germany are noted within the image and in the accompanying campaign index. Several vignettes along the route highlight particularly notable experiences of the unit – debarkation, the allure of Paris, bombed-out cities, and even the Pied Piper of Hamelin! Insignia of the Signal Company and the 30th Infantry Division can be seen in the corners.
Drawn by Ralph E. Steiner of the 30th Signal Company at a scale of approximately one to twenty-five miles. Likely published in Germany in 1945.
