This modest volume outlines the incredible efforts of the 32nd Infantry Division during World War II. The unit spent over 13,000 hours in combat during its three years in the Pacific Theater – more than any other division in the conflict, as of April 21, 1945. ‘The Heroes of Buna’ began their overseas operations in Australia and Port Moresby, followed by victorious engagements at Buna, Saidor, Morotai, Leyte, and Luzon. Several maps, operational and pictorial, are included within the illustrated covers, in addition to photographs, a list of campaigns, and introductory letters from the commanding officers.

The booklet was prepared by the Public Relations Office of the 32nd Infantry Division and printed by the 2773rd Engineers. It is accompanied by a typed commendation “To You Who Have a Deep and Personal Interest” from Maj. Gen. W.H. Gill dated June 30, 1945. “Each word between these covers is a tribute to the valiant men of the 32d Division, each page is a monument to the memory of the men – heroes all – who died in the bitter struggle that our country might live.”
