Description

This charming cartoon map of Las Vegas was published by Unique Media in 2011 and shows the Entertainment Capital of the World looking north, towards Gass Peak in the Las Vegas Range. The iconic ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign sits prominently in the foreground. Finely detailed depictions of major landmarks, locations of interest, and local businesses can be seen interspersed between labeled transportation routes and pictorial geographic features. The Strip along Las Vegas Boulevard shows many of the city’s iconic casinos and attractions. Recent construction of City Center and the Cosmopolitan appears to be omitted, though a large ‘Proposed Hotel’ is shown adjacent to the MGM Grand. Other items of interest include McCarran Airport, ‘Old Vegas’, and the Stratosphere Tower.

The verso of the sheet includes two wonderful panoramas – the Grand Canyon in Arizona and nearby Lake Mead Country. The distinctive cartoon style is a hallmark of the Ontario, Canada-based Unique Media, Inc. Starting in the late 1970’s, the company created a number of maps with a similar aesthetic of locations across the United States and continues to do so today.
