Description
This brightly colored invitation to travel abroad was designed by American artist Louis Macouillard and published by the Pacific Area Travel Association around 1955. The industry consortium, headquartered in Honolulu, sought to change public perceptions of the Pacific from a devastated theater of war to an idyllic tropical paradise.
An impactful ‘political map’ is accompanied by vignettes that highlight the cultures of various destinations. Despite the country’s extensive Pacific coastlines, China and the Soviet Union are deliberately omitted from the promotional poster – an unfortunate reality of Cold War-era political circumstances.
