Description
This uncommon ephemeral brochure was issued in the early 1920s by the Tourist Information Bureau, an arm of the Tampa Board of Trade. Illustrated covers credited to J. Earl Schrack and dated 1921 showcase the tempting combination of industry and leisure that would encourage Florida’s Land Boom and bring serious outside investment into the city. The back panels provide a simple road map of Florida, placing Tampa near the center of a state that is clearly embracing the Good Roads movement.
The centerpiece of the promotional article is a Tampa City Map, highlighting downtown and nearby residential districts. Over seventy locations of interest are numbered and identified in the accompanying key. These include the Italian Club, Plant Field/The Tampa Bay Hotel, and arrows to nearby attractions like DeSoto Park (the site of a free auto camping ground) and Sulphur Springs. Further information on local amusements is provided in the descriptive text. WorldCat lists only one example, at the library of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. OCLC# 71202009
