Description
This poignant Saturday Evening Post cover, published about a month before D-Day, recreates an iconic wartime artwork by Norman Rockwell. A father, presumably to the three boys pictured in the upper right (two pilots and a sailor), anxiously puffs at his cigar and eagerly tunes into the radio for the latest news. A pile of marked-up plans of possible invasion routes is scattered about, with a reference map of Europe posted on the wall. Portraits of Eisenhower and MacArthur are literally and figuratively ‘elevated’ within the image.
