60th Follow Thru [with] Forward March

The World War II campaigns of the ‘Go Devils.’

This WWII unit history tells the incredible story of the 60th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the ‘Go Devils.’ A short summary of World War I is followed by a chronology of major World War II events from activation in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, across North Africa, Sicily, and France, into postwar occupation duty in Germany. Profusely illustrated with photographs, cartoons, and even a few poems, the contents offer an intimate look at the wartime experience for a decorated unit.

The volume includes a colorful fold-out unit map (presumably also by Schollkopf), with an image split into two segments. Flames are used liberally to denote the numerous locations where the “Go Devils’ were engaged, concentrated especially heavily around the Hurtgen Forest and the Ruhr Pocket. The upper half of the sheet presents the path across Europe from northern France to linking up with the Red Army near the Elbe, while the bottom shows North Africa and Sicily.

The book was compiled and written by 1st Lt. Morton Stussman, with illustrations by German-sounding Kurt Schollkopf. Engraved by Gustav Dreher and printed by Christian Scheufele in Stuttgart, Germany in 1946.
