Description
This colorful map of Europe would have served as a useful guide to anyone looking to plan a continental tour around 1905. A legend in the lower right notes the lines used to highlight operational, incomplete, and proposed railways from the Straits of Gibraltar to the steppes of Central Asia. The strongest concentration lies in northern Europe – all the more useful to move men and munitions in the upcoming First World War. Coverage there contrasts sharply with Cyprus, which has three railroads shown under construction – the first would open the year of the map’s printing.
Designed by Dr. K. Sohr and published in Glogau, Poland by Carl Flemming in 1905. Advertisements for other maps and publications by the firm are noted on the front end cover.

Condition Description: Stenciled color map dissected into 32 panels, mounted on linen, and affixed to original red cloth boards. Covers are embossed and gilt, in good condition except the spine, which is a bit tattered at the top and bottom. Light toning along the panels, consistent with age. Very good condition overall.
