Description

This possibly one-of-a-kind manuscript plat map is dated 1892 and was drawn by the Office of the Chief Engineer of the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway. It officially records several mid-19th century property transfers from private citizens to the Little Miami Railroad Company, which was acquired by a predecessor the P.C.C. & St.L. in 1890. Surveyed boundary lines are presented in addition to text descriptions, similar to a system of metes and bounds. The depot, engine house, freight house, and blacksmith shop are among the handful of labeled buildings. Today, a rebuilt Xenia station occupies the same spot, with the rail lines converted to nature trails popular for cyclists and hikers.
