Description
“Dear Mother, Dad, & All, Here’s hoping for the best that can come in the future That I will not have to spend another year on foreign soil. Your son, Jack.”
This brief, but heart-wrenching note was written by a member of the Third U.S. Army in the winter of 1944 to his family back home. Jack shared the same wish as many in his unit and it’s possible that it came true, as some G.I.’s were demobilized prior to the end of 1945. The front of the card shows a simple route map as the Third Army rolled across France ‘To Berlin.’
Drawn by Private Petroff, designed and approved by G-2, Third U.S. Army in 1944.
