The Beatles Collection from Liverpool to the World [Beatles Map]

Rare set of promotional items issued by Liverpool for fans of the city’s most famous residents.

This incredibly groovy pictorial map of Liverpool was published in 1974 by the city’s Public Relations Office. It was issued with the aim of harnessing the power of ‘Beatlemania’ to promote tourism at a time of steep economic decline for the port city, as well as to bemoan the recent breakup of the group. The map was designed in a similar style as the animated film Yellow Submarine (1968) and highlights the former birthplaces, schools, and homes of the Fab Four. An abstract portrait of the band, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, and the Yellow Submarine itself are also captured within the image’s iconic aesthetic.

The map was originally issued as part of a commemorative souvenir set called ‘Liverpool to the World.’ Enclosed in a folder designed to mimic a record label, the pack includes a welcome letter from the Official Beatles Fan Club, a psychedelic poster of the band, timeline chart, album list, bookmark, tour booklet, and three golden postcards.

According to the inventory listed on the National Museums Liverpool website, the group is complete. An incredible and scarce collection of ephemera celebrating one of the most influential bands of all time.
