[Activity of the Emden, Konigsberg, and Karlsruhe Light Cruisers

Building the military library of a fledgling Turkish navy.

This is a rare example of a Turkish translation of a World War I military treatise written by German Admiral Erich Raeder, who would go on to become infamous due to his prominent role in the naval warfare of World War II. According to the introduction, written by the translator, the second volume of “Cruiser War in Foreign Seas in the Great War” was deemed especially important due to the heavy blow the German cruisers were able to have on the maritime trade of the Entente.

There were undoubtedly parallels seen between the unequal naval forces in those engagements and the looming disproportion of the relatively small Turkish navy compared to that of its friends and foes. The volume includes several folding maps and a small atlas that show the wartime operations of the German light cruisers, maritime trade routes, etc.
