Upland The Center of the Great Citrus Belt of San Bernardino Valley

Promoting Upland, California in the first decade of the 20th century.

It is hard to exaggerate the beauty and desirability of life anywhere in Southern California and to name one community above another is to exhaust the language of superlatives, yet the happy dwellers of Upland confidently issue this little booklet in the interest of this community, the fairest among all the sisterhood.” [Text, verso].

This ‘little’ booklet was published in Los Angeles by the Pacific Folder Company around 1910 and issued by the Upland Men’s Club to promote the fledgling Southern California community. Sixteen different photographs highlight various prominent buildings; including churches, private homes, schools, orange groves, and tree-lined avenues.

Four panels of text praise the robust transportation network, bountiful agricultural opportunities, and favorable climate. A map also occupies one panel and shows the city of Upland situated in the ‘Center of the Citrus Belt’ between Los Angeles and San Bernardino.
