The West Maui Mountains dominate this view of Lahaina on the island of Maui, oriented with east at the top. The lush green of the surrounding jungle and agricultural areas blends into the subdued illustrated civilization, concentrated along the waterfront at Front Street.
A few other transportation routes are noted, along with the city’s historic relationship with the whaling industry (lower left). In particular, text in the lower left juxtaposes the loss of a local retired whaling ship to the permanent loss of the species if inaction continues. Maui’s famous black coral is also noted (and under threat).
