Description
According to the introduction, “Carlsbad Caverns are renowned throughout the world for their magnificence, the spaciousness of their rooms and passages, and the number and dimensions and variety of the stalactites and stalagmites. To illustrate, a single room within the caverns has a floor as expansive as 14 football fields and a ceiling as high as a 22 story building.”
The bold claims are backed up by an accompanying cut-away diagram illustrating ‘the Big Room’, in addition to the rest of the cave system under the Guadalupe Ridge. Photographs, text, and a pictorial sequence illustrating the formations of the caverns are also included.
The back cover includes a two-toned map, with subterranean features in black and surface structures in red. Issued in August of 1960 by the Government Printing Office on behalf of the National Park Service.
