This hand colored map of the Eastern Hemisphere was included in Colton’s General Atlas, published in New York by Johnson and Browning in 1860. Interior details reflect political organization, geographic features and significant population centers.
There are large unexplored areas in the interior of Africa and along the Antarctic continent; two of the 19th century’s last unexplored frontiers.
