Description
This map captures the experience of the 925th Engineer Aviation Regiment in WWII; from the unit’s activation at Camp March, California in July of 1943 through its trek across Europe to the outskirts of Munich on V-E Day. An oblique perspective is used to show the incredible geographic expanse of the territory covered by the regiment.
Surrounding the image are the names and dates of twenty separate locations visited by the troops during the two years they were engaged in the conflict. Along the bottom of the sheet are illustrations of the different types of machinery used by the aviation engineers as they constructed airfields, runways, hangars, and more. Tucked amid the road graders, excavators and tractors is a band being pulled on a flatbed trailer – likely referencing a real group of musicians used to boost morale.
Signed in the lower right corner by what appears to be the name W.E. Weir. Weir also appears to have updated this map for an edition related to the 830th Engineer Aviation Battalion (a unit attached to the 925th). Both versions are scarce, with no listings in the OCLC.
