“Everyone knows about California.. [text on verso]” A portrait of the Pacific Coast without the Golden State.

Description
This beautiful pictorial map of the states of Washington and Oregon was issued in a Fortune Magazine special profile on the Pacific Coast. Typical of such issues, it emphasizes the local industries, agricultural products, historic sites, and natural landmarks with a variety of colorfully illustrated vignettes. Small annotations give further tidbits of information and topography is shown in a charming, reduced style. A scale in the upper left provides a bit more detail on regional elevation, but the impression remains generalized.
The image was drawn by Antonio Petruccelli (signature lower right) and published as a supplement to the March 1940 issue of Fortune Magazine.
