Description
This detailed engraving shows (half) of a spectacular panoramic perspective looking north and west from the top of Boston’s Bunker Hill. The foreground depicts the outskirts of a bustling port city stretching along the banks of the Mystic River. Numerous vessels are shown plying the waters, while the White Mountains of New Hampshire can just be seen in the distance. Over fifty different locations of interest are numbered within the image and labeled at the bottom of the sheet.
Engraved by James Smillie and published in Boston in 1856 as part of Samuel Gardner Drake’s History and Antiquities of Boston.
